<p>These days, the media are talking about advanced technologies, the speed and emergence of innovations, and especially the stunning speed of development of artificial intelligence technologies. Some believe that the current era is the era of artificial intelligence. Others consider it the cognitive era. Another group believes that we have entered an era called the Beta generation.&nbsp; Some believe that due to the remarkable and rapid advances in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, we will see a new generation called the Beta generation.</p>



<p>Unlike the previous generation, which has only lived in the era of artificial intelligence technology, the Beta generation will be the first generation to grow up fully in a world of integrated technology, including autonomous vehicles, health technologies, and pervasive virtual environments.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Undoubtedly, this new generation, which is the children born in 2025, faces new challenges.&nbsp;</p>



<p>This group will inherit a world that is grappling with complex challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and changing population dynamics that require adaptation, collaboration, and innovation. Therefore, understanding the potential challenges and anticipating effective solutions for such a period is very much inevitable. As usual, the first and most important step in nurturing such a special generation that will live in a challenging period of human history is educational measures and investing in their proper education.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Therefore, the traditional and common education system will no longer meet the stated needs of the Beta generation and the current conditions, and perhaps changes or reforms will be necessary to prepare as much as possible not only a generation but all units of society that are responsible for this generation and the conditions and challenges ahead. </p>



<p>A lot of research has been done on education systems, highlighting the problems of the current systems. These systems may not only not foster creativity and innovation but sometimes suppress higher mental abilities such as creativity and problem-solving. </p>



<p>For example, George Land and his colleagues designed a landmark experiment for NASA in 1960 that showed that one reason many people are geniuses in childhood but less so in adulthood is the weakness of education and school-solving.</p>



<p>In explanation, traditional schools and educational systems promote convergent thinking and reinforce a single answer to a single problem, while the emergence of creative thinking is based on convergent thinking. </p>



<p>On the other hand, creative children not only do not thrive in this environment but also become frustrated due to the lack of support from the school for genius and unique answers and the hope of obtaining high scores on common school tests. They may not find the educational environment attractive and leave it! </p>



<p>It seems that a general solution is to reform the educational environment so that the integration of innovative and flexible methods that give priority to children&#8217;s independence, experience, and interests is a correct educational reform that paves the way for the training of modern world actors, who are the children of the Beta generation. Meanwhile, it seems that Elon Musk has an educational idea that has a kind of futurism hidden in it, and he showed it a few years ago by founding the Ad Astra School.</p>

<p>Before anything else, I would like to ask the following question and present my general analysis:</p>

<p>My analysis and impression is that Elon Musk is known not only as a wealthy entrepreneur but also as an innovator, creator of practical ideas, and futurist.</p>



<p>It seems that he is not just an idea generator or supporter of new ideas, but he has repeatedly shown that he is an extremely pragmatic and pragmatic person. A pragmatic person who has the flexibility to actualize his own and others&#8217; ideas, puts them into practice and tries to make access to the future smoother by realizing new ideas. In addition to perfectionism, he has intellectual flexibility. &#8220;Impossible&#8221; seems to be an unfamiliar word for him. The attractive and effective seasoning of these characteristics is his remarkable hard work.</p>



<p>Therefore, given what was said in the introduction and what I briefly said about Elon Musk&#8217;s personality, educational ideas for the new generation that consider the future are not far-fetched.</p>

<p>It seems that the purpose of this school is to educate students who can succeed in the fast-paced world of technology. Ad Astra tries to cultivate students&#8217; natural curiosity and help them acquire the skills necessary to build a better future.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Perhaps in those years, Elon Musk and the experts of the founding team of Ad Astra predicted the fast-paced years of advanced technologies of the present and thus designed a school suitable for children of the beta generation. That is why a significant part of the content and structure of Astra is working with modern science and technology. <p>The Montessori method is an educational approach based on active learning that was designed by Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator, in the early 20th century. This method believes that every child has a unique potential for learning and growth and that the role of education is to facilitate this natural process.</p>



<p>This method emphasizes that the education system should stop wasting time and teaching unused reserves in real life and wasting time and instead try to educate future citizens and professionals in a way that they know what to do as soon as they enter the real world. This approach is futuristic and believes that education should consider the learner as a problem solver.</p>



<p>According to this perspective, the learners progress at their own pace and in serious activity, and no learner will be passive and forced to acquire knowledge. Knowledge and learning are learner-centered and are the product of the learner&#8217;s active interaction with the educational environment. This means that it is based on the learner&#8217;s abilities, interests, and needs. In other words, the learner has an active and meaningful role in this educational environment to acquire applied knowledge.</p>



<p>This approach is based on principles such as learner-centeredness, an organized learning environment, and learning and problem-solving through experience and observation. among contemporary scholars, Jean Piaget, Vygotsky, and Gardner have been inspired by the Montessori approach.</p>

<p>It seems that the most effective trigger for the layout and design of such an institution is the rapid advances in advanced technologies in artificial intelligence.</p>



<p>As mentioned in the first part of the article, these days, the requirements of life have changed due to the amazing speed of technological changes. It is better for the heart of any society that educates future generations to accept the responsibility of creating them the power of adaptation and the knowledge necessary to live in the super-modern era.</p>



<p>The <em>Alpha generation</em> has largely experienced these changes but has not yet been immersed in them. However, the <em>Beta generation</em> is expected to be immersed in the leaps of the age of artificial intelligence and large language models. This generation must have the skills to adapt to technology from the very beginning. In other words, the <em>Beta generation</em> is a problem solver and adapts to the rapid changes of this era as quickly as possible.</p>

<p>One hundred and fifty-six scientists have just published <a href="https://journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/msphere.00034-23" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a long letter</a> in various journals explaining why we need to continue with <a href="https://medika.life/gain-of-function-research-pandoras-box-or-an-indespensible-scientific-tool/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gain of Function</a> (GOF) research. Their timing, coinciding with the release of (the questionable) video by <a href="https://medika.life/video-of-jordon-walker-supposed-pfizer-researcher-goes-viral/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Project Veritas suggesting Pfizer&#8217;s business practices</a> apparently include GOF (under the guise of the term Directed Evolution), couldn&#8217;t have been worse. </p>



<p>Particularly now, when it looks increasing likely that the Wuhan Institute of Virology and their GOF research (<a href="https://medika.life/how-the-nih-funded-wuhan-coronavirus-research-with-u-s-taxpayers-money/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">US funded</a>) on coronaviruses <a href="https://medika.life/on-the-origin-of-covid-with-apologies-to-darwin/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">led to this pandemic</a>. Even the ex-CDC Director has <a href="https://www.axios.com/2021/03/26/wuhan-lab-coronavirus-cdc-director" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">come out in favor of the lab leak theory</a>. So, is this a good idea?</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Can I Get a NO? A Loud, Resounding, Absolute NO.</strong> </h2>



<p>Not in any rational, sane world that is intent on survival of the species, can we permit the continuance of this kind of research <strong>in its current form</strong>. Especially in the kinds of laboratories we currently use, where apparently, upgrading the walls to Swiss cheese would offer better protection than is currently available. Especially in the hands of scientists, politicians, media and a pharmaceutical industry all of whom have just schooled us on how to manipulate the human race. </p>



<p>How many millions more may pay with their lives for the greed, avarice or incompetence of the few? We haven&#8217;t yet held these individuals to account for the 2019 pandemic and here we are again, back on the roundabout, hell bent on laying the groundwork for a second one.</p>



<p>And that is really where the problem lies. It isn&#8217;t the science that&#8217;s flawed. GOF is a really useful tool, but like the most deadly assault rifle, it can be used for protection or for mass extinction. It depends on the hand that wields it and science has been coopted by individuals and companies that look only to profit and the pursuits of their political masters. In the process, we die, by the millions.</p>



<p>To depress you even further, we cannot walk this back. Not ever. The gene-manipulating genie is out of the bottle and there&#8217;s no putting it back. This type of research will still continue, even if it is outlawed at the highest levels. The potential rewards, which are huge, far outweigh the risks. The only solution is to manage it, somehow.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How Do We Fix This?</strong></h2>



<p>Elon, so glad you stopped by, as you, or a group of individuals (we understand not everyone can buy the bluebird of happiness on a whim) may very well hold the key to our continued existence, and no, I am not suggesting relocating Pfizer, Moderna and the rest of their motley crew doing pathogen research to Mars, although I&#8217;d probably chip in myself for the rocket fuel for that trip.</p>



<p>We know that the current logistical management for GOF needs to be better. Unfortunately, we cannot contain the viruses we work on safely within a facility without them escaping; even our highest levels of security, BSL4 labs, are breached. Every year, incidents occur across the globe, and we may even have the next potential pandemic underway as I write, that is how frequently it happens. </p>



<p>Logic dictates we either stop the practice (not happening) or take steps to ensure we don&#8217;t kill the entire global population, unintentionally, or otherwise. To do this, it is critical we remove the danger from populated areas.</p>



<p>We need to establish a global research facility, one of a kind, independently monitored and audited, that is as far removed from proximity to humanity as possible. The middle of the desert springs to mind, a dedicated center for viral research where, in the event of a breach, only the unfortunate scientists pay the price for their carelessness. </p>



<p>To overcome the strain of lengthy periods of isolation, a facility constructed for these purposes could be expanded to include schooling and retail therapy, allowing scientists to pursue their passions and research in a semblance of normality. Most of the pioneers and researchers engaged in Gain of Function are driven by the science, they are passionate and focused, and again, it is their work that is co-opted, rarely the individual.</p>



<p>Quarantines would apply to all personnel leaving the facility, requiring a five-day plus furlough in a Trump Hotel built five miles away. Driverless Teslas, repurposed for deliveries, would alleviate the need for contact with the outside world, and Elon, you could use this as a dry run for Mars.</p>



<p>Humor aside though, the idea has merit and may very well offer a way out of our current predicament. The only other viable alternative is to temporarily halt all research until we are able to fully automate facilities handling dangerous viruses. By that, I mean no human interaction at all. Experiments could be performed remotely, utilizing robotics. We are technically capable of this, but it would be incredibly expensive (I wonder who has a few billion in pandemic profits lying around), restricting who would be able to utilize this kind of technology.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Great Kindness or Greed? We All Hope the Former</strong></h2>



<p>Humans are capable of great kindness and innovation, but the danger with this type of research always defaults to the involvement of the human element. We are prone to making mistakes, ask all the unfortunate and very dead researchers working with these pathogens when they escape. Realistically, if safety is our paramount concern, and it should be, our only viable option is to remove GOF research from its proximity to our populations. Back to option 1.</p>



<p>This discussion is unfolding right now, preempted by the letter I referred to above. Perhaps the logic here was to get their case heard before all the wheels come off. When evidence surfaces, and it will, to corroborate the lab leak theory for the SARS virus, all bets will be off. The backlash will be spectacular and science, unfortunately will pay the price. Science we desperately need to cure the ills that have been ailing us for generations. </p>



<p>Villagers and their torches aren&#8217;t particular about what they set fire to, and in this instance, they have good cause and science will burn.</p>



<p>Any solution that removes the risk of exposure to pathogens from accidental spillage, cannot obviously account for nefarious intentions, sadly something the industry is rife with. Another thorn in the side of ethical science that needs to be overcome and security at this remote facility would need to be ironclad.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>GOF Can Result in Life-Saving Drugs or Danger</strong></h2>



<p>We&#8217;d like to spark a proper conversation on this subject, involving people who have the resources (Elon, you still here?) to implement solutions that are in the interest of both science and public safety. The two parties must find a way to safely coexist. </p>



<p>It is also worth mentioning that gain of function is far more than what the public perceives it to be. The technology is critical to developing new drugs, new cancer treatments and many other practical uses that do not focus on weaponizing pathogens. Making a virus more deadly may utilize Gain of Function technology, but it represents only a fraction of the industry&#8217;s use of the technology.</p>

<p>Under Elon Musk, Twitter has announced it is “de-regulating” posts, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/twitter-ends-covid-misinformation-policy-cc232c9ce0f193c505bbc63bf57ecad6?utm_campaign=KHN%3A%20First%20Edition&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;_hsmi=236048194&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-9cGujKdJ6kk5dbB0W9eN825jO9jWrzNH3BWDQVQi-JRgjRWlGKs-M872wX4ZJTXMjQAEP4gAihA8-8mxn_LpZdhqAuKaWp-l1CijO1iruA_IoZdFY&amp;utm_content=236048194&amp;utm_source=hs_email">stepping back from its policy</a> of tagging and deleting COVID-19 misinformation on the platform. For many good reasons, experts say this move will have serious public health consequences, coming as it does amid a still-deadly pandemic. It seems very reasonable for public health authorities to hold this position. But, will this resolve the bigger challenge – communications chaos?</p>



<p>As social media has grown in importance and become a go-to source for information, there have been persistent calls from lawmakers and regulators for owners and managers to be responsible for tagging the misinformation that has often been spread on their platforms and moderating it.&nbsp; Does this ask exceed our abilities to monitor and engage and corral dangerous deniers?</p>



<p>Long before one of the world’s wealthiest people slapped down $44B to buy Twitter, the public was in the grip of a misinformation pandemic. Whether on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit or any of several platforms, communication and public discourse have been partisan, ideologically informed and slanted. &nbsp;During the pandemic, when this “Tower of Babel” was combined with inaccurate, non-authoritative and often conflicting pronouncements from those in authority, the public’s trust in elected officials, health authorities, drug companies and public institutions was broadly undermined.&nbsp; By the time Elon Musk got to Twitter, in terms of trust, the horse had long fled the stable.</p>



<p>During the COVID-era, social media discourse has already enabled our nation to self-divide into tribes. &nbsp;Whatever Musk’s intentions are, we are already in the midst of a perfect storm of “trust deregulation.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>TRUST TAKES YEARS TO EARN &#8211; IT&#8217;S LOST IN A MOMENT</strong></h2>



<p>Trust in institutions, it turns out, is short-lived and can be fragile.</p>



<p>Despite the great success of COVID vaccines, which are medical miracles, public health officials’ overstatement of their benefits contributed to reduced trust. Designed to protect and guard against viral transmission, vaccines were not all they were promised to be. Their protection turns out to be individual, not societal, and they guard against disease severity, like the flu shot, but not transmission.</p>



<p>As variants come onto the stage, we are encouraged to get another booster shot.&nbsp; But the variant that now reigns supreme has no vaccine. It’s the <em>“I don’t give a damn”</em> adaptation. When the scientific story changed, it became hard to maintain confidence in the system.</p>



<p>Public health officials aren’t alone; there is a <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2022/06/06/public-trust-in-government-1958-2022/">documented, dramatic trust</a> decline in government and science, in addition to public health. Institutional trust diminishes as anxiety resulting from emotional (and social) isolation rises. Many blame social media for ratcheting that anxiety, as it’s often difficult to differentiate fact from fiction. But while Twitter is accountable for much chaos, it’s not responsible for the drop in consumer confidence in institutions.</p>



<p>Trust is personal, earned through consistent action over time. How institutions and companies — embodied by their CEOs, marketers, and communicators — engage transparently and honestly defines the quality of relationships and earns them trust.</p>



<p>While trust must be carefully earned, it can more easily be squandered. Public health institutions proved this.</p>



<p>The CDC needed to improve when it came to consumer mobilization. Masks work. Social distancing was effective. Vaccines and booster shots reduce disease severity. But are people continuing to wear masks, take precautions or get boosted? The Centers for Disease Control failed to establish itself as the go-to source for information and direction, and no longer enjoys the level of public trust it once did.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE ERA OF VERIFY, THEN TRUST</strong></h2>



<p>And that takes us back to Twitter. While many point the finger at Twitter and other social platforms like Facebook as primary culprits in the mess we face, the causes of the current distrust go deeper. Poor communication and indecisive action from those in authority, a willingness to exploit crises for political and personal gain, coupled with news networks and media platforms that long ago moved from reporting facts to reflecting the tribal beliefs of their audiences’ ideological alignment contribute mightily to the loss of objective truth and the normalization of passing misinformation.</p>



<p>If quashing misinformation is to have any positive impact, consumers need to have a well-regarded, apolitical home base they can trust, which does not currently exist. How can Twitter alone be held accountable without this beacon of accuracy being seen as a go-to source?</p>



<p>Whether we advertise or not on this platform, there are right now 450 million&nbsp;monthly active users on Twitter!&nbsp; Most do not register what Elon Musk says or represents.&nbsp; If the billionaire throws his hands up and shuts off the lights, who wins the final round of this debate?</p>



<p>Many pundits sound Twitter’s death knell. Some are couching it as retribution for being a home for misinformation – or worse, hate.&nbsp; But, if Twitter – with its global town square positive aspects still intact &#8212; collapses, does anyone win?</p>



<p>Without a trusted, objective source, it becomes critically important for consumers of information to adopt a more skeptical mindset to review information carefully to determine its value and truth.&nbsp; And that means verifying the accuracy of information before sharing our trust.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>MOVING FORWARD TO BUILD TRUST</strong></h2>



<p>Platforms like Twitter have a responsibility to their users, including protecting them from fiction that could lead to dangerous decisions regarding their health. Whether Elon Musk can be appealed to or not to reverse this decision to step back on quashing misinformation, regulators, corporate leaders and communicators must be reminded that creating and maintaining trust with the public is a micro-building community activity that happens house-by-house, person-to-person, and eye-to-eye.</p>



<p>We must recognize that Twitter is a microcosm reflecting people’s diversity, beliefs, and opinions. If Twitter fails, the plurality of opinion it has revealed over time doesn’t go away.&nbsp; To build trust with that broad, diverse crowd of users, communicators need to make their cases with facts, convincingly, with authority and evidence, over and over. &nbsp;It isn’t going to be simple to navigate these chaotic waters, but when it comes to combatting misinformation, we are all in the same boat.</p>
